My Pen Pic

Firstly - my character strengths.

  1. A fast and effective learner
Over the years, I've come to realise that I pick up things really quickly and am able to implement my learnings throughout my various activities I take part in.

  2. Resilience
A good challenge is what sparks my passion - I stand headstrong and rarely falter against problems that are thrown my way.

  3. Trustworthy
I have established myself and have been recognised by my peers, juniors, and teachers that trust can be held in m, for I provide dependable and principled leadership and counsel. This can be seen in the various leadership positions I've held over the years.

These are my achievements in the areas of:

Academic Work

  • Mentoring a board of Y5/6 directors for Model United Nations in writing several research papers utilised as study guides by over 350 students across Singapore.
  • Carried out a thesis (submitted internally in RV) analysing the correlation of the architecture in HDB Flats in Singapore with national development.

Co-Curricular Activities

  • Selected as Vice-President of the History and Current Affairs Society from 2022-2023, leading over 150 students and peers.
  • Founding member of River Valley Multimedia, formed upon the dissolution of a previous section (2018-2020) under the Infocomm Club, to which I was also a member of.
    • Chosen as the Secretarial-Humans Resource EXCO of River Valley Multimedia (2021-2023).
  • Defensive-line player for River Valley Ultimate in 2022-2023.

These achievements made me reflect how important it is to not only focus on academics, but also to place emphasis on building relations around me.
I think these activities have filled up my high school life with joy, allowing me to take my mind off academic stress.

I consider my teammates from Ultimate akin to family, and I strongly believe that my relationships with them will carry on much longer than the eye can see.

School & Extra-Curricular Activities

  • Class Chairperson in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
  • Deputy Secretary-General for RV's Flagship Model United Nations (RVMUN) conference in 2023.
  • Administrative member for the Junior College Batch of 2022's Prom Night organising committee.
  • Head faciliator in RV's flagship leadership seminar Y.LEAD (Youth. Leverage Educate Actuate Develop) in 2022.
  • Member in the RV Outreach programme, facilitating RV's open house from 2019 to 2022.
  • "Best Narrative" Awardee and Finalist in the 2023 GIC Fin-Lit Competition.
  • Beneficiary of the National Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Services (EAGLES) in 2022

My extensive participation in these aforementioned activities

  • What does it feel like when I am faced with a new task/ project? How do I practice the strength of self-regulation? Is there anything I need to work on/an area in which I need to grow?
  • What activities have I been involved in where I work with people from different backgrounds? What have I learned about my character strengths from working with them?
  • If I were to describe a time I learned a lot from a group project, how would what I have learnt benefit me in my future career?

VIA Projects

  • Assisted in the crowd control of the 2023 Boon Lay Community Countdown.
  • Volunteered at the Singapore Society of the Aged Sick in 2023.

Exploring My Passion & Purpose

💡
The definition of the success that I wish to achieve is...

What does success mean to me when it comes to a career? What do I value in a career?
After taking career assessments (refer to MBTI profile and other assessment tools in the MySkillsFuture Portal), what do I notice is important to me in a career? [Be as detailed as I can].

As opposed to what the normal person would assert, I believe that success in a career is not derived when you achieve a high salary or an esteemed position. Instead, it comes from bringing value. It comes from being able to garner strong respect from your colleagues and clients for the trustworthy and valued work that I present. I strongly value respect and recognition in a career — not that of a superficial one, but rather one that is deeply rooted.

💡
How will my passion help me achieve success and find my purpose in the world?

If I were to imagine my life five years from now: what challenges would I want to solve? How might this relate to a/some career/s?
Have I started exploring some paths that relate to the challenge areas that interest me? (e.g. I feel I might want to help with Singapore’s ever-growing healthcare challenges – do I see myself doing this through allied healthcare? Through nursing/medicine? Or through hospital administration? As a medical social worker?
What questions have I come up with for myself during this exploration phase?

I am still in midst of exploring in detail the various industries that I am considering for my career, to which are investment banking and foreign politics. For the former, I have challenged myself in partaking in the 2023 GIC FinLIT! Competition that allowed me to spend a day at the GIC Office, sparking my first contact with what investment banking entails. I also took part in the MOE-ESS Economics Seminar 2023.

Meanwhile, I had the opportunity to be part of a private audience with the Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affair's HQ Consular Directorate, MR Steven Pang. This allowed me to get a better understanding of the jobscope from an exprienced industry individual.

Awareness of my Strengths and Achievements

💡
Short-term plans for academics, CCA, VIA, and school activities.

What else would you like to accomplish this year? (try to be specific, e.g. improve in a certain subject by how much, initiate something in class/ CCA/ VIA, pick up a new skill/ refine an existing skill, or try to secure an internship/attend a course/workshop etc)
When thinking of your future, are there any skills you would like to further develop? What can you do now and over your JC years to make this happen?

For my academics, I need to really put in more hours for Mathematics revision given that it is one of my least performing subjects; I would like to get an A for Chemistry, History and Economics as well.

For my first CCA (Ultimate), I want to prove myself worthy of my position on the team. There was always this trepidation of not meeting my coach and teammates' expectations since the start, and it has been something I have been working hard to fight against over the months.

For my other CCA (History & Current Affairs Society), my goals here are greatly different from that of in Ultimate. I want to inspire my juniors (and peers alike, hopefully) to lead in their own dispositions, their own interests, just like I did with respect to History. History was what gave me my first true taste of the power of storytelling, and was what built up my pillars of core values that entwines the hallmarks of other leaders who once stood before me. It has shaped my moral values as a leader, and sculpted the actions I take on as a leader in front of these people. To be a leader in your own right has this empowering feeling to it unlike any other, and I wish for my juniors and peers to be able to experience this at their own pace as well.

💡
Long-term plans for my education and career.

Are you aware of the kind of training you will need to help you reach your goals? (e.g. length of the degree programme - a year or more on housemanship/ studying to be called to the Bar, or the specialized skill sets you might need to develop - like coding).

My tertiary education would very likely start off with an undergraduate course on Bachelor on Business, Banking and Finance. My goal for this would be to make dean's list, if not at the very least graduate with Honours (distinction).
